04   What is not included

The scope
is the scope.

Every line below is something an agency might fold in to make the pitch feel bigger. None of it is included. Each omission keeps the program small enough that one senior operator can run it without compromising the work.

  1. 01

    A junior account manager

There is no AM seat in any engagement. The senior operator on the sales call is the senior operator on every weekly working session. If you want a buffer between you and the work, hire an agency.

  2. 02

    Weekly reporting decks nobody reads

A written Monday summary covers spend, leads or revenue, what changed, what is next. PDFs and slide decks are not included. The dashboard is the source of truth.

  3. 03

24/7 support or guaranteed response times

Slack is open during US business hours. Outside that window the response can wait until morning. Genuine production fires get triaged the same hour.

  4. 04

    Social media management

I do not write or schedule organic Instagram, TikTok, or LinkedIn content. The Content Engine ships SEO blog posts to your CMS as drafts. That is the only owned-content output.

  5. 05

    Standalone design or branding services

Ad creative gets built inside the program because the ads need to ship. Logos, brand identity systems, packaging, print collateral, and pitch decks are out of scope.

  6. 06

    Affiliate, influencer, or PR programs

Not the work. If those channels matter for your brand, hire an operator who runs them. Trying to fold them in as a favor is how every program quietly fails.

05   Before the call

Bring the real constraint.
I will name the right depth.

If the issue is isolated and scope-bounded, I will point to a Project. If one channel or measurement system needs weekly ownership, Core is usually the fit. If strategy, acquisition, tracking, reporting, and the operating cadence are tangled together, that is Full Program work.

I do not make the larger engagement the default. I will recommend the smallest engagement that can fix the problem.

The role

What a fractional
marketing lead is.

The prices above buy a seat. This is what the seat is, what it covers, and how it differs from the other shapes you could hire.

What is a fractional marketing lead?

A fractional marketing lead is a senior marketer who owns a company’s marketing strategy and execution on a part-time, ongoing basis. You get one experienced operator embedded in the business, running the work directly, without the cost of a full-time executive or the layers of an agency. Fractional means a fraction of the time, not a fraction of the seniority. The same role is often listed as a fractional marketing director or fractional head of marketing. The seat is the same.

What does a fractional marketing lead do?

They set the strategy, then do the work that strategy implies. In practice that means owning paid acquisition, conversion tracking, the weekly testing and reporting, and the calls where decisions get made. The defining trait is that the same senior person who decides what to do is the one who does it. There is no handoff to a junior and no account manager in between.

How much does a fractional marketing lead cost?

Most fractional marketing engagements run between $3,000 and $12,000 a month depending on scope and seniority, far below a full-time senior hire once salary, benefits, and ramp time are counted. My own engagements start with a $2,500 one-time sprint, mid retainers from $3,950 a month, and a full operator engagement from $8,500 a month. The pricing is published in full.

Is a fractional marketing lead an employee or a contractor?

A contractor. The engagement is a monthly agreement for a defined scope, not a payroll seat, so there is no salary load, no benefits, and no severance exposure. The work happens inside your accounts and your tools, and everything built stays yours when the agreement ends. Notice period is set in the agreement; mine is month-to-month after the first month.

How many clients does a fractional marketing lead work with at once?

A real fractional lead works with a small handful of companies at a time, usually three to six, because the model only works if one senior person has the bandwidth to be hands-on in each account every week. Anyone claiming to run twenty accounts personally is describing an agency, not a fractional engagement.
